Friends of Marin Stables

On Thursday, March 11th, the Marin Municipal Water District met to consider whether or not to extend the lease for Marin Stables.  The meeting room was packed to overflowing with more than fifty friends of Marin Stables.  The MMWD was able to get input from a variety of sources including

• Novato Horseman,
• Back Country Horseman,
• Dickson Ranch,
• Willow Tree Stables,
• Marin Horse Council,
• Marin Sheriff's Posse,
• Concerned citizens of Fairfax, including Marin Tack and Feed,
• Horse owners across Marin and Sonoma County,
• Neighbors of Marin Stables,
• Boarders.

People who could not be present voiced their opinion on paper:

• A letter of support from Supervisor Hal Brown,
• A letter of support from Fairfax Mayor Frank Egger,
• A letter of support from Fairfax San Anselmo Children's Center, and
• 600 signatures petitioning the MMWD to keep Marin Stables open.

The board suggested that the next steps would be to have the staff collect information on the revenue from Marin Stables and the corresponding expenses, and to set a time to meet with representatives from Friends of Marin Stables to see how they could work together going forward.

We're in the process of documenting the new friends you can meet at the barn, both horse and human.  We're also starting to document some of the local flora and fauna that you can see on the trails behind the barn.
